Maths |
Shape recognition. Spatial reasoning, including symmetry. Partitioning and subitizing 2,3,4,5,and 10 and number bonds for these numbers. |
Literacy |
Compose a sentence in their head and hold it for memory to then write it. How to answer simple questions about what they have heard and read. Learning about story structure. Making story maps and writing stories to tell to others. Writing lists, notes and menus. |
Phonics |
Learn the alphabet. Mastery of phase 3. Spell the first set of common exception words. Read and spell the second set of common exception words. Hold a sentence. |
Understanding The World |
Know, name and talk about at least 5 minibeasts.Know what the word habitat means and say where minibeasts can be found. Can explain the life cycle of a butterfly and frog. Talk about their own lifetime and create a personal timeline |

Jigsaw- Healthy Me! Learn what we need in order to keep healthy and look after ourselves. |
Expressive Arts and Design |
Design and make a caterpillar. Talk about independent artwork and tell others about it. Draw/paint simple minibeasts showing form- observational drawing from real or pictures. Knows how to improve artwork (scrunch, twist, fold, bend, roll) Change the tempo and dynamics when playing instruments. |
Communication and Language |

PE Days
PE in Reception is on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child wears their PE kit to school on these days. Our PE kit is plain black shorts, leggings or joggers; plain white or school PE t-shirt; school jumper.
Homework
Phonics and maths homework will be given out on a Friday. The children should practice writing and saying the taught sounds for that week as well as attempting the maths challenge.
When your child receives a reading book please support your child at home by reading 5 x a week for at least 10 minutes.
Useful Information
To ensure your child is ready to learn, please provide them with a labelled bottle of water everyday. A healthy snack of fruit or vegetables is provided by the school.
Forest school will be on Friday afternoons. A pair of wellie boots would be useful.
